Computer age leaving college behind

The computer age — that age we all now live under — causes stupidity to reign in high fashion throughout all of America. Indeed, one no longer needs to be intelligent nor learned to land a well-paying job, not these days.

I met a computer expert who earns $70 an hour repairing computers, and he is almost illiterate. One day, for example, he was reading some of my writings when he asked me what the upside down "!" meant. I told him that the upside down "!" was an exclamation point.

Indeed, nowadays all that matters in terms of employment revolves around understanding computers well. That is, those people who have not taken time out of their lives to receive a proper college education simply need to learn to become proficient in computer use to land top jobs.

That is bad news — especially in an era of nuclear armaments — for we will need all the intelligent men and women possible in order to avoid nuclear warfare. However, soon our leaders shall be computer savvy, but at the expense of true wisdom.

Some computer experts receive their college degrees in computer science, and that is fine because they can earn a well-rounded education. Sadly, though, such computer experts are few and far between.

That is, most computer experts are horrible at communicative skills, yet such skills are vastly needed in order for humanity to flourish.

America is being harmed from within — not from without — because too many computer experts are functionally illiterate. Most computer experts learn computer repair on their own — because they say college is no longer needed.

Philosophers tell us that philosophy is the pursuit of truth and the love of wisdom, but as regards most computer experts — these days — neither truth nor wisdom shine.
