Beginning March 7, 2013, you can take your entire family to Art Slam: a free, interactive, themed, art festival. This month’s theme is “Light” and features over 25 local artists presenting their work completely centered on light. The art will be exhibited at various businesses along Main Street in Old Town Newhall and comprises exhibits, presentations, live musical performances, video art displays, and hands-on art experiences. Some of the featured artists include Odius, Carrie Dawn, Martha Wilcox, Brian Chandler, and Lily Wilson to name a few. Each month’s festival will have a different theme. Art Slam is a great place to take the family for free, interactive art experiences. Art Slam is located on the corner of Lyons Avenue and Main Street in Old Town Newhall from 7p.m. to 11p.m. on the first Thursday of every month. For more information, check out this website.

Last week I mentioned I would let you know what else is going on here in the SCV for St. Patrick’s Day. If you are the ambitious type, get registered for the Thirty-Third Annual St. Patrick’s Day 5K Run at Central Park in Saugus, at 9:00am. This event is sponsored by the Santa Clarita Knights of Columbus. There will be many options throughout the valley to spend the day enjoying; you can even start at one end of the valley and work your way celebrating through to the other end. On the Valencia side of town, Mulligans Restaurant will be serving corned beef and cabbage, lamb stew, as well as, an assortment of fresh steaks, seafood, and appetizers. DJ starts music and dancing at 6pm. March 17 Restaurant Hours 11:00am to 10pm. In Canyon Country, Bergie’s Restaurantwill be open from 11:00 am to 10:00 pm and will be serving corned beef and cabbage all day. Downtown Newhall will be having a great celebration this year at Egg Plantation. Enjoy live Irish music from 5-9pm on March 16th & March 17th. The menu will include corned beef and cabbage and Traditional Irish Lamb Stew served with homemade soda bread. Guinness on tap, green beer and featured drinks. As always families are welcome, no reservations required. If you are in the mood for a short drive your best bet for St. Patrick’s Day will be Le Chene, which is located on Sierra Highway as you are driving towards Acton. Spend the day listening to a genuine Irish bag piper; enjoy the corned beef and cabbage entree. And, of course, green beer for all you leprechauns. Look closely and you might see me there celebrating the holiday and my anniversary!
