Santa Clarita Mayor Bob Kellar plans to file amended financial disclosure forms by Tuesday, he announced Thursday afternoon.

"It is an honor to serve as this city's mayor and I would never knowingly jeopardize the public's trust in me," Kellar said in a prepared statement. "It is my hope that these steps today will resolve this issue so we can move forward to continue working to make Santa Clarita an even better place to live."

The state Fair Political Practices Commission has been reviewing Kellar's previously filed Statements of Economic Interests to look for omissions that could constitute violations of state law.

The state requires candidates and elected officials to file the Form 700 to disclose income, investments, gifts and other financial information. Deliberately omitting applicable information could result in fines and misdemeanor charges.

Kellar filed amended statements on March 10 to include his gross income.

However, those forms failed to completely list individual sources of income of at least $10,000, which would include real estate commissions. Kellar, a Realtor, had said he wasn't aware of that requirement. He has said that most commissions exceed $10,000, but has said he believes revealing a list of his clients' names would be a breach of his fiduciary responsibility.

He said Thursday he wanted to ensure the information was in fact required before he amended the forms.

"Over the past three weeks I have consulted with the California Fair Political Practices Commission, the California Association of Realtors and private attorneys as to the proper interpretation of the regulation," he said. "Based on the information presented to me, it is clear that I will need to amend the forms and have begun to do so."

Kellar was elected to the council in 2000 and is seeking re-election in April.
