The beautiful weather we have had lately makes me want to get outside and spend time enjoying nature. A perfect place to do that is Placerita Canyon Nature Center. This facility has so much to offer for the whole family. There are a number of hiking and historical trails that are suitable for all outdoor enthusiasts. The center features the “Oak of the Golden Dream,” the site where gold was first discovered in California and also the Walker Cabin, a landmark, built in 1920 by Frank Walker. Placerita Canyon Nature Center strives to conserve native wildlife and educate the community about local flora and fauna. They offer nature walks (both guided and unguided), wildlife demonstrations, and school programs. The non-profit center is operated by volunteers and most of the programs are presented free to the public. Donations to provide care for the animals are always greatly appreciated. So if you feel like reconnecting with nature, lace up those hiking boots, grab your walking stick, and head over to Placerita Canyon Nature Center. It is located at 19152 PlaceritaCanyon Rd, Newhall, CA, 91321. Oh, and by the way, watch out for the poison oak on the Manzanita Mountain Trail!

Summer is quickly approaching, so now is the time to make sure your air conditioner is in perfect running order. If you want professionals who care, you should contact PTC Aire. PTC Aire is owned by our own local resident, Brett Gaumond. They are licensed and insured and ready to make your summer cool and comfortable. If you have questions, be sure to Ask the Expert, Brett at or look them up in our daily Service Directory ads and give them a call.

If you don’t have a house of your own yet that needs an air conditioning review; rest assured there is still time to purchase a great new home before summer. The first part of purchasing a home is getting the pre-approval letter from your lender. I am personally working with one of our great advertisers: American Family Funding. I am sure you already know a lot about the team there from our story in the March 31st special edition of SCV Community Pride, in The Signal newspaper. I can’t begin to tell you how patient Rhona Jukes has been with me and my constant questions. She is also very thorough so you know that your loan process will be hassle free and soon you’ll be able to enjoy your new home. Trick is finding one…

There are just a few things required in order to make any day a pretty good one, in my book. It can start with a nice breakfast at The Egg Plantation where, if I don’t have to get to work, I can have a wonderful mimosa or bloody mary. Once I’ve filled my belly for the morning, perhaps a nice stroll next door to one of my favorite places to find treasures, Propinquities Boutique. After getting my shopping on, next on my list is lunch at Schoonerville where once again, if work is not part of my day, I might grab a schooner of beer. To wrap up my great day, perhaps I might head straight to Westfield Valencia Town Center for more shopping, maybe a movie and definitely dinner and cocktails… at one of the many places from which to choose.

Now I am not a big drinker, contrary to this writing, but this, my friends, sounds like a great day. If you want to see for yourself, go on in to any of these places. Telll them Alesia Humphries sent you.
