Are you doing your part to help protect planet Earth? Although Earth Day is officially Monday, April 22, 2013, many people all over the world use the entire month of April to celebrate Earth and promote the protection of our natural environment. You can reduce your ecological footprint by making small changes and forming new habits. Recycle paper, glass, plastic, and metal. Dispose of hazardous electronic waste properly by taking them to designated centers. The possibilities for helping our environment are endless! To make a difference you can: form a carpool, install solar panels, add insulation to your house, or plant a tree. You can also support legislation that protects the environment and/or become a volunteer for one of the many non-profit environmental protection groups. For example, my children enjoy volunteering for the Heal the Bay Organization, a group who is devoted to keeping the ocean and watersheds clean. Make a difference by making at least one change; every little bit counts. The hope is that Earth Day will be an annual celebration that not only influences people in April, but instead helps people make choices every day that protect our environment. Reduce, reuse, and recycle whenever possible …. because every day is Earth Day!

It’s time again for our annual Senior Living special section. This section will be filled with interesting articles and important information. It is a wonderful pull-out section that you can keep and refer back to all year long. You will also be able to find it online at Many of our local businesses will have advertisements for their products and services – you won’t want to miss this on April 28, 2013.

Shopa What? Shopapalooza that’s what! It’s coming to Santa Clarita April 25th through April 28th. This is going to be a shopping extravaganza for our local retail merchants. What does this mean? It means that there are going to be amazing sales and specials for the customer! Be sure to check out The Signal Newspaper and for more information on who is participating. If you’re a retail merchant it is not too late to participate in this great sale – just give me a call and I’ll get your ads booked right away.

Summer is coming. These words, which once held visions of long days filled by poolside lounging, light eating and family fun, now conjure frantic thoughts of being left behind! I am of course speaking of my high school bound son, who is also college bound. Having been to this rodeo before, I know all too well the pressure that is about to be bestowed upon my freshman son, to get this or that done, without which he “will never get into college”.

Well, I have learned from my past and I am getting back on the horse smarter and in better shape! My son and I are taking advantage of trails already blazed and sending him to college this summer! Summer sessions are in his future at both College of the Canyons and Cal Arts. Both of these schools offer many programs from which to choose and we are taking advantage of both.

You can see more about Cal Arts frequently on Studio Santa Clarita at, and when you visit the campuses, tell them Alesia sent you.
