Los Angeles County officials are working with representatives from the Guatemalan Consulate to determine the identity of a woman whose body was found off San Francisquito Canyon Road more than a week ago, a spokesman said Friday.

Craig Harvey, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office, said the woman appears to be a Guatemalan national — hence the cooperation between the department and the consulate.

“She is still Jane Doe No. 23,” Harvey said.

The body was found April 11 about 20 feet off the side of San Francisquito Canyon Road behind bushes in the Angeles National Forest.

A sheriff’s homicide lieutenant said the body was found covered with a tarp or bag/ Only a pair of legs was visible.
Harvey said a cause of death had not been determined for the woman, who is described as in her 30s.

The Guatemalan Consulate could not be reached for comment Friday afternoon.
