The Saugus Union School District announced Friday that Chad Hammitt will join the district as its new assistant superintendent of human resources.

Hammitt joins the Saugus district after spending 16 years working for the Santa Ana Unified School District in Orange County, most recently as its assistant superintendent of personnel services, according to a news release.

Hammitt grew up in Ventura and is in the process of earning his doctorate in education from the University of Southern California, according to the news release.

“SUSD has a track record of ongoing student achievement, and my goal is to keep that continued focus and work corroboratively to assist the board and superintendent in moving the district forward,” Hammitt said in a release.
Hammitt replaces Rick Grove, who left the district in December, according to Saugus Superintendent Joan Lucid.

Grove’s job title was assistant superintendent of personnel, but the name of the position was changed to reflect some restructuring in the district, Lucid said. Risk management services and employee benefits were under the purview of human resources, she said.

Hammitt will start his new position in June, but Lucid said the district is already excited for Hammitt to start.

“He’s got a breadth and depth of experience and really is going to be a wonderful addition to our team,” Lucid said Friday.
