Community Hiking Club hosts Earth Day recycle/reuse challenge

WHAT: Earth Day RECYCLE/REUSE Challenge

WHERE: In your own Back Yard

WHEN: Project due on or before April 22: Earth Day

WHY: Learn about Stewardship, Recycling, Reusing and WIN

The Community Hiking Club is hosting a Challenge to everyone in and around the city of Santa Clarita. Collect garbage from roadsides, trails, your garage, any of our stewardship events or your own trashcans. Make your treasures into a sculpture or other useable item and submit it to CHC for judging on or before Earth Day, April 22.

This is a great project for schools, clubs, churches, individuals, families, and individuals. It is open to everyone, of any age. There are no specific age categories, however. Prizes will be rewarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Honorable mentions will also be given.

Contest rules:
*Individuals, families and groups are eligible to participate.

*All ages are invited to participate, although there are no age specific categories.

*All participants must fill out an email registration form before the event (contact

*Items must be made out of materials you are recycling, not new components.

*Artwork can be assembled with new connective materials such as solder, screws, glue, etc. Additional "new" materials such as corks or wire are also acceptable.

*All items can be painted and decorated with new materials such as paint, glitter, pearls, stickers, corks, glass, etc.

*No hazardous, bio-hazardous, combustible, or deteriorating materials (food/yard scraps) can be used (Any item submitted with questionable materials will be refused)

*No pornographic or generally distasteful items will be accepted for judging

*All items will be submitted by 5:00 PM on or before April 22 to CHC

* All items will be accompanied by a tag with entrants name, address, phone, and item description, including "use" (decorative, hose holder, garden stake, book

*All items must be picked up after the commencement of judging or will be subject to being recycled.

*Items will be judged on your use of materials, inventiveness, usefulness of the project, and over-all appearance.

*Judges determinations are final, and no compensation of any kind, for any reason will be awarded with the exception of prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Honorable Mentions will also be given.

*CHC, as a group, is not eligible to participate.
