A Valencia swimming pool destroyed by vandals last summer reopens today after $325,000 and more than nine months spent in repairs — and still no arrests for the damage.

The grand opening of the renovated North Valencia pool happens today on Grandview Drive and Fairview Drive, marking the first time since vandals dumped seven gallons of paint into it and ruined more than $300,000 worth of pipes and infrastructure.

Passersby can see festivities of the grand opening from the street since renovators uprooted shrubbery around the pool to ensure vandals stay visible and that no more damage is done.

“We removed every blocking tree and shrub and we’re hoping that will do the trick,” said Wolfgang Costello, president of the Northbridge Homeowners Association.

The association had to rip up the pool’s entire plumbing to repair it.

The only job outstanding is the arrest of whoever was responsible, Costello said.

A $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and/or conviction of the vandals who demolished the pool remains unclaimed nine months after they ruined a summer for neighborhood kids wanting to swim.

Now Costello and association members are thinking of doubling the reward money.

“We actually have a board meeting coming up and we’ll be contemplating raising the reward from $5,000 to $10,000,”

Last summer, vandals robbed the Northbridge community of a summer by the pool and prompted a nine-month shutdown of the facility.

Between the night of July 24 and the early hours of July 25, they dumped seven single-gallon cans of blue, red, green and yellow house paint into the pool and a significant amount of green paint into the hot tub.

They also tossed deck chairs into the pool.

Because the paint was pumped through the pool system, it coated and clogged the pipes and damaged two recently purchased, $25,000 boilers, Costello said during a tour of the damage a day after the vandalism.
