A preliminary hearing date has been set for a young Valencia man who caused a national stir last year for allegedly threatening children in an online chat room, according to a Los Angeles Superior Court official.

Both Eric Ting Yee, 21, and his father, Roger Manfoo Yee, are scheduled to appear in San Fernando Superior Court on May 22 for the preliminary hearing, the court official said.

Eric Yee was originally arrested Sept. 17 for allegedly posting comments in an ESPN online chat room saying he was watching kids and “wouldn’t mind” killing them.

Yee was charged with possessing an illegal weapon after a search of his parents’ Valencia home — where he was staying when the comment was posted and which overlooks two Santa Clarita Valley schools — turned up an illegal H&K M-94 assault rifle.

His father faces the same charge.

Eric Yee and his father both pleaded not guilty to the charge in October.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office did not file any charges against Eric Yee related to his alleged online threats.

Both Yees are out on bail.
