A Taste of Canyon Country is bringing together local restaurants, chamber members and their guests Wednesday evening, May 15 at the College of the Canyons eastside campus from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business mixer at the College of the Canyons Canyon Country campus to focus on local businesses in the area.

The chamber is hosting the mixer with the Canyon Country Merchants Association who has been working to put a spotlight on area businesses.

“We decided to blow up this mixer and to focus on Canyon Country-based restaurants,” said Terri Crain, president and CEO of the SCV Chamber of Commerce. “There are a lot of great restaurants up there and the mixer provides some good exposure for that side of town.”

Attendees also have the opportunity to network and learn about various businesses and services offered throughout the SCV, as well as learn more about the college’s Career Technical Education program.

The mixer plans to feature food samples from Grinder’s Deli, Panera Bread, Oggi’s, Rout
The mixer also serves as a fundraiser for the chamber as well, so that it can continue to support local businesses, Crain said.

“It’s a common misconception that chamber is subsidized,” she said. “That’s just not the case.

Serving businesses for 84 years, the local chamber has more than 1,100 businesses as members.

“Having a strong Chamber of Commerce is crucial to a successful business environment,” said Mayor Bob Kellar in a recent column.

Held at the college’s Applied Technology Education Center in Quad 7, COC is providing shuttle service between the parking lot on campus and the technical center, Crain said.

COC’s Canyon Country campus is located at 17200 Sierra Highway. More information about the mixer can be obtained by calling the chamber at 661-702-6977.
