Officials correct that fires, reported by different parties in different locations, were the same

A Santa Clarita Valley brush fire that was initially reported as two separate blazes was doused by Los Angeles County firefighters in the Valencia Industrial Center today.

The wildfire was initially reported about 12:45 p.m. at Rye Canyon Road and Avenue Stanford, said Los Angeles County Fire Department spokeswoman Stephanie English. What was called in as a second fire at Tourney Road and Magic Mountain Parkway was part of the same fire, English said.

The blaze was contained to about an acre and a half by swift-acting firefighters, a fire official said.

A downed transformer in the area of Tourney Road and Magic Mountain Parkway is being investigated as possibly having sparked the fire, said Inspector Anthony Aikens.

“The first unit to respond to Rye Canyon reported the fire as an acre creeping uphill,” he said.

By 2:40 p.m., the fire had blackened one and a half acres.

“It was a grass fire in light winds in an industrial area,” Aikens said. “No significant structures were threatened.
“However, (Southern California) Edison had some infrastructure involved,” he said. “But we don’t know yet if it started the fire.”

The blaze was contained by 2:40 p.m.

Winds did not pose a substantial problem to the firefighting efforts, English said.
