The 15th annual SCV Relay for Life kicks off Saturday at Central Park in Saugus. The fundraiser to combat cancer will run 24 hours from 10 a.m. Saturday to 10 a.m. Sunday, with participants walking laps the entire time — some remembering lost ones, some celebrating victories or hoping for more.

The day’s activities will include raffles, giveaways, food, games, prizes and much more.

The relay will include a special Luminaria ceremony in remembrance of those who have died of cancer and to provide hope for those currently battling illnesses.

Money raised at Relay for Life events all over the nation go to support the American Cancer Society in its mission to provide cancer research, education, patient services and legislation.

The SCV event alone raises more than $400,000 every year and is the largest Relay for Life in Southern California, according to a news release from local organizers.
