The California Public Utilities Commission will hold two public hearings Thursday on Valencia Water Company’s proposed rate increase.

The hearings, scheduled for 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. at Santa Clarita City Hall, involve an application to the Public Utilities Commission for a 12.68 percent rate increase effective Jan. 1, 2014, followed by a 3.12 percent rate increase that would take effect on Jan. 1, 2015.

According to PUC officials, the application, if approved, would mean a $5.58 monthly increase for the typical residential customer in 2014 followed by a $1.47 monthly increase in 2015.

Valencia Water last received a rate increase in February 2011.

The commission will accept both verbal and written comments on the rate proposal during the two hearings Thursday. The administrative law judge presiding over the case will be taking comments at the hearing.

Copies of Valencia Water’s rate increase application can be viewed at its business office, 24631 Avenue Rockefeller in Valencia.
