A brush fire burning near Gorman swelled to 10 acres from 2 acres in less than an hour Monday, an emergency response official said.

Shortly after 12:40 p.m. Monday, officials with the Los Angeles County Fire Department received reports of a one-acre brush fire burning north of Gorman, on the east side of Interstate 5, a Fire Department spokesman said.
Officers with the California Highway Patrol shut down Gorman Road, he said.

By 1:40 p.m., firefighters reported they had knocked down the fire, with containment described as 80 percent, he said.

Two firefighting helicopters from Kern County and one from Los Angeles County were kept at the site, he said.
