A trial date has been set for a Saugus man accused of strangling his girlfriend to death in 2011, an official with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office said this week.

Jane Robison, a spokeswoman for the District Attorney’s office, said Thursday a judge has ruled there is sufficient evidence to proceed with a trial for Eric Allen Earle, 41, who stands accused of murdering his girlfriend Karla Brada.

Brada, 31, died of asphyxiation in her Saugus home between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. on Sept. 1, 2011, according to Dr. Pedro Ortiz, deputy medical examiner with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office.

She had also suffered several scrapes and bruises before she died, he said.

Earle’s next court date is June 5 for arraignment in Department D of the San Fernando Superior Courthouse, Robison said.

He faces a charge of felony murder and, if convicted, a possible sentence of 25 years to life in prison. Earle remains in custody in Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles in lieu of $1 million bail.
