The Sand Canyon estate home of Richard and Marian Sandnes welcomed sponsors and VIP guests on Wednesday to the annual Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley Auction Preview party.

Guests were able to preview several of the auction items that will be on the block at the 42nd annual Benefit Auction to be held June 1 at a building in the Valencia Industrial Park.

"This auction is critical to our success," said Ronda Chobanian, development director of the Boys & Girls Club of SCV Foundation. "We depend on the community to help us."

Attendees also were able to meet and greet the 12-week old Maltese puppy that will find its "forever" home on auction night.

Auction preview catalogues were also distributed during the evening which featured hors d’oeuvres from RSVP Catering.

The Boys & Girls Club Auction is the single most important fundraising event of the year for the club, said Chobanian.

Jim Ventress, chief professional officer of the Boys & Girls Club of SCV, welcomed guests to the auction preview party and also thanked the hundreds of volunteers that help stage the annual auction.

Chris and Jayne Fall, auction co-chairs, promised the crowd that this year’s auction, with the theme "Rock On!" would be "great fun."

"This year’s theme is classic rock," said Chris Fall.

He encouraged guests to dress in classic rock regalia and "come to party."

Fall was the first to purchase his auction raffle ticket.

"See, it says 001," he said.

The raffle tickets, which cost $100 each, allow the winner to chose any item from the auction catalogue with the exception of the Head Table, said Fall.

"It’s a great way to support the club if you can’t attend the auction," he said. "You do not have to be present to win."

Among the items up for auction will be more than 50 live auction items and nearly 300 silent auction items.

Auction items include vacations, sold out concerts, jewelry and sports memorabilia.

The Boys & Girls Club of SCV serves nearly 2,500 area youth with after school and summer programs.

"Nearly 40 percent of our students are teenagers," said Ventress.
