Members of the California state Assembly voted Thursday to pass a bill from Assemblyman Steve Fox, D-Palmdale, that would require a state study on a new California State University campus in the Antelope Valley.

The study would allow a comprehensive look at whether the area needs its own four-year university, according to Fox.

The study will include elements such as enrollment projections, the potential to create jobs in the area and what effects a new campus could have on other educational institutions in the Antelope Valley.

The study will be funded by non-state resources, according to Fox.

Fox previously told The Signal that passage of the bill was among his top priorities for this legislative session.
The bill now goes to the state Senate for review.
