The man accused of robbing a Newhall bank, touching off a brief police pursuit on Highway 14, may be involved in some Ventura County robberies, sheriff’s officials said Friday.

After questioning the suspect, 23-year-old Palmdale resident Demarie Rashad Mackey, investigators now believe he was involved in two other robberies, one in Simi Valley and one in Camarillo.

Mackey was arrested May 25 for allegedly stealing an undisclosed amount of money from a Bank of America branch on Valley Street near Lyons Avenue in Newhall.

He was arrested on northbound Highway 14 near Sand Canyon Road.

Mackey pleaded not guilty to robbery charges in San Fernando Superior Court on Wednesday.

The investigation is a joint effort between sheriff’s departments in Los Angeles and Ventura counties, Simi Valley Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
