Environmental documents related to the proposed construction of two toll carpool lanes through the Santa Clarita Valley are now available for public viewing locally, according to the California Department of Transportation.

The project’s environmental impact report can now be viewed at four locations throughout the Santa Clarita Valley: the Santa Clarita Community Development Department, located in City Hall at 23920 Valencia Blvd., the Valencia Library, located at 23743 Valencia Blvd., the Castaic Library, 27971 Sloan Canyon Road in Castaic, and the Stevenson Ranch Library, 26233 Faulkner Drive in Stevenson Ranch.

The project, a joint proposal from the California Department of Transportation and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Transportation Authority, would construct two new carpool lanes on Interstate 5 from Parker Road in Castaic to the freeway junction with Highway 14.

A private-public partnership would be used to expedite construction, but tolls would have to be charged to repay the private entity that assumes the upfront construction costs of the project, according to officials.
