Two schools in the William S. Hart Union High School District have been nominated for recognition as California Distinguished Schools for the 2009-10 year. The schools, Rancho Pico Junior High School and Academy of the Canyons, the Hart District's middle college high school, were selected among some 500 California Schools.

The schools selected met the state's revised criteria for the honor and were invited to submit applications. The nominated schools are now scheduled for confirmation visits of their status.
