A Santa Clarita Valley elementary school youngster was hospitalized Monday after suffering cardiac arrest.
The boy was rushed from Pacific Crest Park near Mountainview Elementary School to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital around 11:30 a.m. after his heart stopped beating, officials said.

By 5 p.m., he was reported to be doing better.

“He was still in the hospital but ... he wasn’t hooked up to any machines,” Lt. Tom Bryski of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said.

A receptionist at Mountain View Elementary School said the incident did not happen on campus but that it did involve a student at the school.

Within 20 minutes of the boy arriving at Henry Mayo, sheriff’s officials reported the boy showed quick signs of recovery.

“They got his heart going again,” said sheriff’s Sgt. Rich Nagler at 12:20 p.m. “He’s doing better,” he said.

Sheriff’s deputies worked with firefighters to shut down intersections from the Saugus school to Henry Mayo to get the boy to the hospital as quickly as possible.

Further information on the youngster was not released.
