More charges filed against ex-Calif commissioner

OXNARD, Calif. (AP) — More charges have been filed against a former Oxnard commissioner accused of child sex abuse.

The Ventura County Star reports ( a second case has been filed against 68-year-old registered sex offender William Preston Davis. Prosecutors filed four counts of lewd acts with a child under 14 for events that allegedly occurred in 1996 and 1997.

Davis remains in jail after pleaded not guilty to sexual intercourse with a child under 11 and other charges. He has been a registered sex offender since 1967, and has been convicted of seven sex offenses in California.

He served on the city's Senior Services Commission since 2009. Oxnard doesn't require city commission appointees to undergo a criminal background check, but does screen prospective employees and volunteers who work with children.

He has been removed from his volunteer post.
