The 2012 All-Santa Clarita Valley Boys Doubles Team of the Year could have very easily been the 2013 award winner.

Except for one major thing.

Valencia High broke up 2012’s top team this season.

David Myers and Cameron Braun went undefeated in Foothill League play in 2012 en route to a league doubles title.

However, 2012 All-SCV Doubles Team member Sam Rebele lost his partner Jonathan Ramirez to graduation, leaving him without a partner for the 2013 season.

Rebele tried to mesh with teammate Chris Pope earlier this season, but it didn’t click.

The move was made to separate Myers and Braun and form two other teams — Braun and Pope and Rebele and Myers.

And the move paid off.

Both teams took off.

Pope and Braun went undefeated in Foothill League play at a perfect 26-0.

The senior Myers and junior Rebele were almost as perfect at 25-1, losing to the Hart No. 1 team of Tommy LaBat and Luke Distad, 6-3, on March 28.

The difference between the top two Valencia teams came at the Foothill League finals.

On May 2, the second-seeded team in the Foothill League finals — Myers and Rebele — faced the No. 1 seeded Braun and Pope.

Myers and Rebele got the upper hand quickly and rode a wave of momentum to a dominant 6-1, 6-2 upset of their Vikings teammates, claiming the Foothill League doubles championship.

In the CIF-Southern Section Division I postseason, Myers and Rebele dropped just two games in a sweep against Rio Mesa High, then swept three more sets in the second round against Temple City.

Though Myers and Rebele lost all three of their sets in a quarterfinal loss to Beverly Hills, they were the Santa Clarita Valley’s most competitive team in the CIF-Southern Section individual playoffs.

Myers and Rebele defeated Malibu High duo Jesse Weinstein and Harrison White 6-1, 6-1.

They nearly made it to the third round of the tournament, but lost a hard-fought battle with the Calabasas team of Bruce Man Song Hing and Scott Garapedian 6-7 (2-7), 4-6.

For that reason, helping to lead Valencia to an eighth straight Foothill League championship and a significant postseason victory over their teammates, Myers and Rebele are the 2013 All-Santa Clarita Valley Boys Tennis Doubles Team of the Year.
