SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — Use of force by Colton police officers during an arrest that left a suspect dead early last year has been ruled justified.

The San Bernardino County district attorney's office says in a report issued Wednesday that resistance by 44-year-old Hutalio Granados Serrano necessitated use of force by Officers Saul Salazar and Wade Harris, and Sgt. Robbie Bornsheur.

Serrano went into cardiac arrest on Jan. 15, 2012, after struggling with officers, being shocked with stun guns and handcuffed. The report says Serrano had mild heart enlargement and there was methamphetamine in his system.

Officers encountered Serrano after a citizen called police to report a suspicious man. The report describes Serrano as behaving erratically, sweating profusely, disregarding officers' orders and reaching toward his waist, pockets and into his sweatshirt.
