LONG BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Long Beach police say a female prisoner died in her cell early Friday, marking the department's third recent in-custody death.

The Long Beach Press-Telegram reports the woman was found dead at 5:15 a.m. Friday during a routine bed check.

The middle-aged woman had been arrested Thursday after officers discovered she had outstanding misdemeanor warrants.

Police say she was loud and disruptive when she was brought to Long Beach Police Headquarters.

Coroners are investigating the woman's cause of death. She has not been identified publicly.

In late May, a man went into medical distress and died in custody after being arrested for allegedly breaking into cars.

In late April, a 50-year-old woman who was arrested on felony narcotics charges died in a holding cell.
